I was mandated to get SR22 insurance here in El Paso Texas but I do not have a car yet. What do I have to do now?

In Texas, the Department of Public Safety requires auto insurance company to certify that an individual has the financial ability to pay for any future insurance claims up to the limit of what the state of Texas require. This is why you need to have an SR-22 insurance. It provides proof that you are financially responsible and it is done in the form of a certification called an SR22 insurance.
So since you do not own a vehicle in El Paso Texas, then you will need to purchase non-owners SR-22 insurance. This will provide coverage for your auto insurance liability protection.

Hello Marcia! I’m glad that your boyfriend was able to find cheap Texas SR-22 insurance for himself. Now let’s go straight to your question as to what the things he need to consider now that he has SR-22 insurance.
First and foremost it’s a must to keep his auto insurance policy active to avoid any lapse or cancellation on his coverage;
Second, to be able to maintain his auto insurance active, he must pay his car insurance premiums on time. Bear in mind that for auto insurance companies, there’s no such thing as grace period. If you failed to pay your premiums on time then your car insurance company will lapse. If there’s a lapse in his coverage, your insurance company is required to notify your state’s ordering department about invalid SR-22 insurance.
Third, never drive without auto insurance coverage. If there is a lapse in his coverage, he should stop driving and have his coverage replaced the soonest possible time;
Lastly, it’s important that he keep his mailing address on his license current at all times. Not only because it is required by Texas law but also because correspondence letters may be sent by your state in the mailing address that he had listed on his license.
