Study Shows After a decline of alcohol-impaired driving throughout most of the 1990s, a new study shows that driving while intoxicated has increased significantly and researchers believe it is linked to an increase in binge drinking. Drunk Driving Deaths Increased In 17 States.  Alcohol-related traffic death rates decreased in 32 states but increased in 17 during the last five years.

The officer on patrol has observed erratic, suspicious driving, or a series of traffic infractions indicating the possibility that the driver may be impaired. A police officer has stopped a vehicle for a lesser traffic offense, notices the signs of intoxication, and begins the DUI investigation. Texas SR 22 Insurance

Are there Texas SR22 insurance providers that more expensive than others?

Kathy,

Spring, TX.

Kathy,

As far as Texas SR22 insurance providers are concerned there are certainly some that are more expensive than others. It comes down to the companies that try to take advantage of DUI offenders because they realize you are in a difficult situation.

Unfortunately there is no law that regulates the cost of SR22 insurance. So the best way to get the information that is needed in a case like this is to go online. This way you can fill out a simple form and with a click of the mouse have several quotes to compare. Be sure that you not only look for a price range that you like but the coverage that is available.

You are now considered High risk for insurance. That means that you rates will be higher than normal for at least 3 three years. SR22 insurance does not mean thatTexas SR22 insurance companies can take advantage of you in your time of need.

Good Question. Thank You

Can a DUI Attorney help me reduce my charges?

Ted

Ft. Worth, TX.

Ted,

A DUI attorney can help mitigate or reduce the charges. Remember that these charges should be taken seriously. Being found guilty of a DUI can effect you and your family.  Not all people arrested are guilty. Therefore having a lawyer can help your chances greatly.

A qualified attorney will know exactly what to do. Even if you might have said something while being arrested. They will be able to look at you blood alcohol level. Read you breath, urine, and blood test if taken. If convicted you will also have to have Texas Sr22 Insurance.

Great Question. Thank you.

I was just convicted of DUI. What happens now?

Alex

Houston, TX.

Alex,

Sorry to hear of your conviction. But in the future you may need to plan ahead and have a designated driver.

Now there are several things that can happen from large fines on top of the fines that you already have paid. To having to complete an alcohol education  course. There could be community service and even an interlocking device put on your car.

This device is a machine you have to blow onto every time you want to start your car. You even have to blow into this machine several times as you are driving. It checks you alcohol level in you breath. Much like the machine you probably blew into at the police station. You will have to have this machine recalibrated every month with a service fee for this procedure.

You are now considered in the high risk category for auto insurance. This insurance is known as Texas SR22 insurance. Which is required by law for you to have after your drivers license is returned to you and you are no longer on a suspended license. This last for a minimum of 3 years.

So as you can see it is very expensive venture and time consuming. But you may get off easy this time but it may cost a lot more the next time. Remember don’t drink and drive.

Hope this answered you question and you found this web site informative.

Thank you for an excellent Question.

Who Gets Arrested for DUI/DWI?

Rachel,

Tomball, Tx.

Rachel,

Statistics show that males between the ages of 16 and 24 are most likely to be arrested on DUI charges. Most individuals arrested are middle class working citizens. Sadly, DUI statistics also indicate that approximately one-third of those arrested are repeat offenders.

The penalties for DUI are different than those for DWI (Driving While

Intoxicated), but are still severe and can result in long term negative

consequences for you and your future.

The penalty for a first DUI offense can be limited to just a fine. However, the fines can vary and sometimes are very large. Also, in some states, fines may be doubled if a passenger under 16 years old is riding in your car.

But, depending on the jurisdiction, the penalty can also result in the

revocation of your license, a criminal record, a short jail sentence, and/or public service. Prosecutors in many states have pressed for tougher penalties because many DUI suspects, especially repeat offenders, refuse to take the breathalyzer test. Unfortunately, these more severe penalties affect those who have been cooperative or have been wrongly accused. For those who are repeat DUI offenders, you will generally face mandatory loss of license, jail time, and significant fines and court costs. So, just accepting the charges without a strong legal defense is a formula for personal disaster.

Excellent Question.

Texas SR22 Insurance

I was charged with a DUI . Am I required to have theTexas SR-22 auto insurance insurance even though I have the full coverage on my vehicle?

Carol

Houston TX

Carol,

In the state of Texas if you are convicted of the DUI and your license had been suspended for this violation then, normally you would now be required to get and carry a Texas SR-22 auto insurance as part of the process in reinstating your driver’s license.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) states that your license will be suspended if you are convicted for driving while intoxicated (DWI), which time period varies by court but may not exceed two years. A conviction of a DWI for an individual under the age of twenty one will result in a suspension for a year according to the Texas Transportation Code 521.344

A Texas SR22 auto insurance form needs to be filed when proof of financial responsibility is required, to be order to meet the compliance requirements by your state. The proof the state requires is not the insurance policy already in place or an insurance card. You may be able to keep your full coverage insurance with your current insurance company if they file SR-22 auto insurance form. You will probably need to find an insurance company that do SR22 filings if your current car insurance company does not offer SR22 auto insurance.

I was apprehended recently for drunk driving. What will happen now?

Jack

Plano, TX

Jack,

I think not many people know the seriousness of the situation of being on the road. A wrong decision on the road may mean loss of lives for many people. And alcohol is just one of those things that may impair our decision-making faculties. Let me give you some true-to-life statistics.

Annually, about 10.49 deaths per 100,000 populations related to road accidents alone. Although most accidents happen between 4 to 7 p.m. but the fatal accidents occur past 10 pm and around 2 a.m. These past 10 p.m. and around 2 a.m. accidents involve drunk driving. I am just giving you these facts because the car insurance companies will rate you as a high risk driver once they find out that you have DUI records.
Probably, you were made to fill out a form called SR-22 vehicle insurance. Texas SR-22  insurance is only required if you were caught drunk driving. This SR22 vehicle insurance is being required by the DMV from auto insurers that you, indeed, have liability insurance coverage.

Always remember, the more reason you give your car insurer that you are a high risk on the road, the higher your premium will be.

Texas SR-22 Insurance Quotes

I have a friend who was convicted of driving while intoxicated. I heard that he is required to carry Texas SR-22 insurance. I don’t know a lot about the law here in Texas. Can somebody explain to me what does a conviction of DWI involve? And also, what is SR-22 insurance? And where can he find freeTexas SR-22 insurance quotes?

Judith

Houston, TX

Surely Judith!

Since you’ve mentioned that friend is convicted of driving while intoxicated (DWI) his license will be suspended for a period of not more than two years. However, you failed to mention on how old your friend is. According to Texas Transportation Code 521.344, if a person convicted of DWI is less than 21 years old, his or her license will be suspended automatically for a period of one year.

To have his license reinstated, he or she will be required to pay a reinstatement fee, carry Texas SR-22 insurance, and may be asked to attend a repeat offender for DWI program, wherein he/ she is required to submit certificate of completion for the said program.

As to your question aboutTexas SR-22 insurance, it is actually a form that provides proof that your friend has auto insurance that is active. It must be filed by your friend’s auto insurance company and with his DWI conviction, he will required to carry it for a period of two years from the date of his conviction.

Not everyone is required to carry Texas SR-22 insurance, this is only required usually to those who are convicted of DWI just like in your friend’s case. For other cases, if a driver failed to show proof of auto insurance at the time that he or she is involved in a car accident, then that person will also be asked to carry SR-22 insurance.

For your friend to get free SR-22 insurance quotes, I would suggest using the websites. There are a lot of websites that offer free Texas SR-22 insurance quotes. I wish your friend the best in shopping for SR-22 insurance.

Texas SR22 Car Insurance

My boyfriend is required to maintain Texas SR-22 insurance for a period of two years for some serious traffic violation he had committed. He was able to get cheap SR-22 insurance through the websites. What I’d like to know now is things that he needs to do while he maintains theTexas SR-22 insurance.

Marcia

Dallas, TX

Hello Marcia! I’m glad that your boyfriend was able to find cheap Texas SR-22 insurance for himself. Now let’s go straight to your question as to what the things he need to consider now that he has SR-22 insurance.

First and foremost it’s a must to keep his auto insurance policy active to avoid any lapse or cancellation on his coverage;

Second, to be able to maintain his auto insurance active, he must pay his car insurance premiums on time. Bear in mind that for auto insurance companies, there’s no such thing as grace period. If you failed to pay your premiums on time then your car insurance company will lapse. If there’s a lapse in his coverage, your insurance company is required to notify your state’s ordering department about invalid SR-22 insurance.

Third, never drive without auto insurance coverage. If there is a lapse in his coverage, he should stop driving and have his coverage replaced the soonest possible time;

Lastly, it’s important that he keep his mailing address on his license current at all times. Not only because it is required by Texas law but also because correspondence letters may be sent by your state in the mailing address that he had listed on his license.

I hope I was able to help you with your Texas SR-22 insurance inquiry. Good luck and I hope your boyfriend will be able to maintain the cheap SR-22 insurance that he got for the required period.

Texas SR22 Insurance & Laws

I’ve been reading something DUI/DWI laws in Texas. And I’m curious as to what is the difference between the two. I’ve read somewhere that drunk driving has just too many official names like drinking under the influence (DUI), diving while intoxicated (DWI), OUI (Operation Under the Influence) among others. With that, I’m assuming that there’s no difference between the two after all. Am I correct?

Tony

San Antonio, TX

Well that depends on the states where you live in. Majority of US states do not distinguish the difference between the two however here in Texas it’s not the case.

I’ve asked my uncle who is a practicing DUI attorney in Texas (and obviously knows about DUI/DWI laws here) and found out that there is difference between DUI and DWI.

A DUI arrest falls under Class C misdemeanor. For first time offender, no jail time will be required. Also, the fine for this could go up as much as $500. Plus, you may be required to enroll in a DUI program or do community service and also your license will be suspended. Let’s take this scenario as an example, if you are below 21 years old, you may be arrested for DUI if there is any amount of alcohol found in your system.

In contrast for DWI, driving a vehicle in public roads while intoxicated falls under Class B misdemeanor. You can be arrested for this if there are drugs and/or alcohol content found in your system. You will be deemed intoxicated if your urine or blood alcohol level is more than 0.08 %.

Also, once convicted of DWI, you will serve jail sentence, your driving privileges suspended for 3 months (or 90 days) and attend a DWI program. In addition, if you are caught with an alcohol container open, jail sentence is for a minimum of 6 days. Then also have to purchase Texas Sr22 Insurance in order to drive legally again.

I hope I was able to help you with your question about DUI/DWI laws. If you have other legal questions, you can always contact an attorney who knows something about DUI/DWI laws.

Texas SR22 Insurance

What is SR22 Insurance?

The SR22 form is basically an agreement (the agreement is made through an SR22 filing) between the DMV and the high risk SR22 car insurance provider that states that if for any reason the SR22 car insurance provider is not providing insurance coverage for you they will immediately notify the DMV.

But because it is a certificate that is usually filed to obtain insurance, most people already refer to it as sr22 insurance. When you are given SR22 insurance, it means that your insurance company testifies to your state’s motor vehicle department that you have met the required minimum liability coverage.

When you start an auto insurance quote, we’ll take information about you, your car and your driving record to create a rate just for you. Review and print your auto insurance policy documents online. When you’re ready to buy your auto insurance, you can pay online or make a payment by phone. So, see how much you can save by comparing online Texas SR22 insurance rates today.

Who are considered as high risk drivers by Texas car insurance companies ?

Karen

Austin, Texas

High risk drivers usually are charged more for car insurance than that of an average driver. The reason for this is because they pose more risks to insurance providers. Texas car insurance companies will pay for whatever cause or risk he/she might cause in case of an accident. This is one of the reasons why car insurance companies charge higher premiums for high risk drivers.

High risk drivers may be:

Those who have convictions or held citations for not following traffic rules.

  • Drivers who are convicted of DUI/DWI
  • Drivers who are driving without insurance or never been insured.
  • Drivers who have lapses in their policy.
  • Drivers who drive recklessly.
  • Drivers who have been involved in an accident in the past.
  • Drivers having a bad credit report.
  • Young drivers and who are driving for the first time.

These are just some of the reason that put policyholders in high risk driver car insurance category.

Insurance companies in Texas are now specializing in high risk driver car insurance. For instance if you have a bad credit rating there is a Bad Credit Car Insurance available; same with those convicted of DUI/DWI. They will be in need of  Texas Sr22 Insurance.

Texas SR22 Non Owners Insurance

I was mandated to get SR22 insurance here in El Paso Texas but I do not have a car yet. What do I have to do now?

Gene

El Paso Texas

In Texas, the Department of Public Safety requires auto insurance company to certify that an individual has the financial ability to pay for any future insurance claims up to the limit of what the state of Texas require. This is why you need to have an SR-22 insurance. It provides proof that you are financially responsible and it is done in the form of a certification called an SR22 insurance.

So since you do not own a vehicle in El Paso Texas, then you will need to purchase non-owners SR-22 insurance. This will provide coverage for your auto insurance liability protection.

Even though you don’t not have a car you may still be mandated to carry Texas SR22 insurance. You can purchase non owners SR-22 insurance policy in Texas. The car is not covered by an SR22 non-owners policy.

Most of us are confused as to what a non-owners liability policy cover. This only covers liability up to the limits bought. It does not cover the car that you are operating, but only the liability that the driver may cause in case of an accident. This will basically pay for any damage you cause to another person.

Cheap Insurance Quotes Texas

My grandmother is now a widow. Since no one can drive her around town, she plans to drive for herself. She asked help from me if I could sponsor her auto insurance, which I think is a good idea. How am I able to get cheap car insurance quotes in Texas for my grandmother?

Mark

Houston Texas

You have such a cool grandmother. It is nice for her to do the driving for herself. Driving will be a good diversion from her retired life, especially now that she is alone. It is easy for her to be mobile when she needs to go to other places to unwind or meet her friends to socialize. It could give her a sense of independence.

Car insurance cost in Texas is something you should not worry because you can easily get cheap car insurance quotes for your grandmother for following reasons:

  • Being a female driver means you are a safe driver. This reason alone can get you up to 50% lesser premium compared to men’s.
  • Age is also a factor to which insurance rates are based on. If your grandmother is in the fifty to sixty-five years old, you can get cheap car insurance quotes for her. People at this age range are generally safe drivers. Insurance companies usually offer retirement age discount to fifty-five years old and no longer working. Some even lower their age range to forty years old to enjoy this discount.
  • If your grandmother has an older model sedan type of car, this can also get you cheap car insurance quotes for her. Older model cars are cheaper to insure because you can just get the basic required coverage for it as it might no longer be practical to get collision and comprehensive coverage because its value might be low.

So you do not need to worry much about shouldering the cost of your grandmother’s car insurance. Most likely, you will get low insurance premiums for her. But, of course, if she is already more than 75 years old, that’s another story because people in that age range are charged higher. Also, if she is more than 75, it may be best if somebody just drives her around (you or another cousin perhaps).

Young Drivers Texas Car Insurance

I have two boys who are eager to start driving. Are there young drivers Texas car insurance?

Sandy

Dallas Texas

There is a probability for you to get young drivers cheap car insurance Texas even if your boys are new drivers and very young . If they are not driving their own cars, but will be using yours or your husband’s, then, it would be cheaper if you will include them in your own insurances. Also, if they are going to use only one car, you can also just buy one car insurance with two driver’s name on the policy. However, if you are planning to buy them their own cars, then, they will require their individual insurances.

Insurance providers in Texas normally provide substantial discounts to families buying all of their insurance needs from them. That means, buy your mortgage insurance, life insurance, and all of your car insurance needs from the same provider. You may be able to get up to 20% discount for all of those insurances. Make sure to haggle with the provider’s representative and emphasize that you are bringing them a lot of business so that they’ll consider providing you with young drivers cheap car insurance. Moreover, get quotes from other providers as well so that when you set up a meeting with your insurance agent you will have facts to support your claims. If other providers can provide you with lower rates, you should tell your present provider. With the number of insurances you require, they’ll be bound to be generous with discounts.

In the meantime, enroll your kids in a defensive driving course as this will make them into better and more responsible drivers. It will teach them about Drinking and Driving which is a high ratio in teens. This way you will not be looking for SR22 Insurance that can be expensive for young teens. Aside from looking good on the insurance application, your young drivers will also become aware of the different dangers inherent in driving a vehicle. This way, they will be forewarned against over speeding or staying too often on the road. Finally, if your kids prove to be responsible on the road, they are sure to get young drivers cheap car insurance when their policies are up for renewal.

Young Female Car Insurance Texas

I have a 20-year old daughter. For being a good student, her grandparents gave her a not-so-brand-new car as a gift. She is pretty excited about it, but now I’m concerned about where to get money for her car insurance. Is there affordable young female car insurance in Texas?

Shanda

Houston Texas

I can just imagine how excited your daughter about getting her own car. I’m not sure though how you feel about it. Being a mother, you are concerned about her safety and the cost. These are more than enough reason why you should get young female car insurance for her. One is for her safety – that she will be protected from any legal issues in case she would met an accident. Second is to save cost when she’d accidentally hit a car or any properties.

I have bad news and good news for you. The bad news is that 25 years old below are considered high risk to car accidents thus they are likely to get high insurance quote. But the good news is that I have more good news than bad news.

1. Being female is a guarantee that she is a safe driver. Statistics shows that women have lesser possibility of getting involved in car accidents than men. As such your daughter is a candidate for a lesser young female car insurance rate.

2. You mentioned that your daughter is a good student. Car insurance companies give discounts to students who can prove they have good grades, and are performing well in school. Being a good student is a sign that they will be responsible motorist. Thus, they are less likely to engage in risky road activities.

3. The older model car gift of her grandparents is a lucky charm because old models are cheaper to insure. Plus they are less likely to be stolen so car insurance companies will discount you for that.

4. Also, if you have existing car insurance policy in Texas, you can just add her to your policy. You will definitely get a discount for your young female car insurance.

Or, if you do not like her to be listed in your policy, you can try to get the service of car insurance companies who cater exclusively to women drivers. Since, they specialized on women, they are likely to have less customers so they can give special attention to your daughter.

And so as not to get overwhelmed with this additional expense, maybe you can ask your daughter to pay for her car insurance or at least let her pay a percentage of it. This is a good way of teaching her about managing finances.
